Odette England

In Fall 2023, we had the opportunity to collaborate with photographer and artist Odette England during her show at UConn Contemporary Art Galleries working with curator and director, Macushla Robinson, for her solo exhibition, Woman, Wearing Ring, Shields Face From Flash,  from October 25, 2023, to March 9, 2024 . The exhibition delved into the complex relationship between photography, surveillance, and violence against women, featuring found photographs that reveal the problematic visual habits embedded in our culture.

As part of this collaboration, we produced a limited-edition archival pigment print that extends the themes explored in her exhibition. The edition was printed in-house at the Digital Art Services Lab (DASL) by Daniel Buttrey, Coordinator of DASL. In April of 2025, a small number of the CounterProof press faculty were able to bring the completed prints to Odette to have her sign and edition them for future sale.

This project is part of our UConn Artists initiative, which connects visiting artists, faculty, and students through collaborative making. This particular edition exemplifies the kind of cross-disciplinary partnerships we aim to foster here at Counter Proof Press. A limited number of prints will be available shortly for purchase.

Feminism and the Arts Collabs

This week we completed a big collaboration with two “Feminism and the Arts” classes taught by Luciana Q. McClure in the Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies Department. Professors John O’Donnell and Luciana Q. McClure worked with 80 students to produce a collaborative feminist publication. The students collaborated to create the articles and illustrations, and then spent the day working with Counter Proof Press together to collate, bind and produce a brilliant publication that amplifies the voice of feminism within the University of Connecticut.
