OUR HISTORY

Founded in 2014, Counterproof Press is a collaboration between the Creative Writing Program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Printmaking, Graphic Design, Illustration/Animation, and the Design Center Studio in the Department of Art and Art History, in the School of Fine Arts. It is a hub for printmaking, illustration, design, book arts, and creative writing.

Counterproof Press facilitates collaborative studio projects through which students, faculty, the educational community, and visiting artists and scholars from various disciplines collaborate to produce limited edition art objects, artifacts, and publications. Counterproof Press works with yearly projects, events, workshops, and artists-in-residence as it pursues its twin missions of creativity and public engagement. Counterproof Press’s near-future plans include internships, courses, a donor subscription program, membership programs, and fundraising events.

The press recently secured a competitive Provost’s Academic Plan award from the University of Connecticut. The award will further expand the activities and offerings of the Press. Counterproof Press operates in a regional, national, and international sphere.
